Glaubersalt is named after the German pharmacist and chemist, Johann Rudolph Glauber, who lived from 1604 to 1670. Glauber was the first to produce the chemical compound sodium sulfate. As a mineral, it is known as the white, monoclinic mirabilite formed by the evaporation of seawater. Glauber's salt is also called sulfuric acid baking soda and can be used for food to a limited extent. As an additive, it has E-number 514. Sodium sulphates are used i.a. for adjusting the salt concentration in beverages.Net weight
