Mega Calcium Ascorbate, oral powder, is a white powder consisting exclusively of calcium ascorbate. The product is a powerful vitamin preparation for the prevention and treatment of vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant. The need is increased in situations of oxidative stress, for example in major lesions and burns and in severe inflammatory conditions. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. Do not ingest by children under 2 years of age without a doctor's prescription. Vitamin C increases iron uptake and therefore supplements should not be used by people with iron deficiency diseases. Should not be used by people with a tendency to kidney stones, with impaired kidney function or 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. High concentration of vitamin C in the urine can interfere with certain test strips for urine analysis of glucose and hemoglobin. Always state at blood test and urine test that you are taking larger amounts of vitamin C. Ascorbic acid delays the oxidative degradation of dobutamine and may potentiate the effect of dobutamine. Monitoring of the effect of dobutamine may be necessary. High doses of ascorbic acid (1000 mg) may decrease the effect of indinavir (anti-HIV agent). Concomitant use of deferoxamine (iron-binding agent) increases its effect. Ingestion of Mega Calcium Ascorbate should be avoided during the first two weeks of deferoxamine treatment. Caution should be exercised when administering deferiprone and Mega Calcium Ascorbate. Larger doses of vitamin C may affect the management of an anticoagulant therapy. Mega Calcium Ascorbate can be used by pregnant women and during breastfeeding. Problems with diarrhea and indigestion are rarely seen, especially with large doses of Mega Calcium Ascorbate greater than 1 g.
