Wash in nuts - natural sustainable soap

What are wash nuts?

Wash nuts - also called soap nuts - has a natural content of saponins that make them suitable for everything from laundry, cleaning and personal care.  Wash nuts in particular have become a popular alternative to regular detergent. It is both sustainable, chemical-free and easy to use. Instead of detergent, put 3-4 wash nuts in a cotton bag and wash the clothes as usual. It is completely odorless, but if you want your clothes to smell a little you can add a few drops of essential oil. You can also use wash nuts to make your very own shampoo:

DIY Shampoo:

  • Kand 2 wash nuts in 2,5 dl water for 30 minutes. They can advantageously be crushed midway through boiling or blended to release more saponin. The liquid left over is liquid wash nuts and forms the basis of your shampoo.
  • Dilute the liquid to use it as a shampoo; mix a tablespoon of soap in ½ dl of water. The soap does not lather up like a conventional shampoo. Massage it into the hair and into the scalp and let it work for a few minutes. Rinse hair thoroughly.
Wash nuts can be bought in Helsemin's stores or at ours webshop
