The chickpea is commonly grown in the Middle East and is also called the garbanzo bean.
Chickpeas can be used as a filling in pasta for soups, stews, hummus and falafel.
Due to its high protein content, chickpeas have long been part of vegetarian dishes, but in recent years have become a popular addition in several kitchens. Chickpeas have a delicious nutty flavor and can also be roasted on the pan or in the oven in a favorite spice or salt and eaten as a snack.

Chickpeas must be soaked for 10-12 hours before cooking.
