Item description
Burdock can grow up to two meters tall and has large, heart-shaped leaves and small, red-purple flowers. The plant grows in Denmark, and especially the dried flowers stand out, as the barbs of the round balls stick to clothes and animal fur after a walk in the bushes and forest. The roots, which are one meter long, are eaten as a vegetable in i.a. Japan, where they go by the name Gobo. In the Middle Ages, burdock was also grown in Europe so that the roots could be eaten as a vegetable. The taste is reportedly reminiscent of artichoke, to which burdock is related. Nowadays, the roots are rarely used in cooking, with the exception of Italy, Brazil and Portugal. The root was traditionally used in the UK as an aroma in herbal tea, where it is used in conjunction with dandelion - a mixture that is still produced.Net weight
